Department of Assamese

Introduction:

The Assamese department is an integral part of North Bank College. In 1961 along with the establishment of North Bank College, the department of Assamese also started. At the very beginning late Nalinidhar Chakrawarty, Kailash Sarmah, and Late Dr. Satyanath Gogoi worked in this department. In 1976 Dipali Baruah joined in the department in place of Nalinidhar Chakrawarty and from that year onward the honours curriculum in Assamese department started. At present, the department offers Higher Secondary and Degree courses as per the Prescribed syllabus of AHSEC and Dibrugarh University respectively.

‘Sahitya Chora’ of Assamese department was formed in 1975 .Through this literature platform apart from literary cultural activities the students are inspired to do creative writing also. With their own initiative and fund Assamese department conducts workshops and seminars through’ Sahitya Chora’ from time to time through which students are immensely benefitted.

The teachers of the Assamese department are quite punctual in delivering classes. They are very helpful and are always available for personal guidance to the students. They are associated with many social organizations likeAsomSahitya Sabha, Sahitya Akademi, Assam Prakashan Parishad, National School of Drama, Asom Natya Sanmilan, etc.

To provide the highest quality education, assistance, and guidance as well as the environment to the students to inspire, motivate and contribute to achieving the epitome of their ability and potentiality not only in their academic carrier but in their life as well.

     The department of Assamese have an active forum named as ‘ Sahitya Chara’ which  was formed in the year of  1975.It  includes  all the faculty members and the students of the department of Assamese .All the activities of the department  have actively conducted by this forum.Through this literature platform apart from literary cultural activities the students are inspired to do creative writings also.
